Black History Month Brunch 2024
On February 3, 2024, BCW in Action hosted its annual Black History Month Brunch in three cities — Edmonton, Calgary, and Regina — uniting community leaders, speakers, and supporters under the powerful theme: “Black Resistance.” Each event celebrated the richness of Black history, culture, and resilience, while also raising funds in support of our Black Girls Empowerment programs.
Edmonton
In Edmonton, the brunch was held at the BCW in Action office (OEX‑2, 12021‑102 Avenue) and featured powerful messages from keynote speaker Dunia Nur (President of ACCEC), alongside guest speakers Dr. Temitope Oriola and Dr. Miriam Sekandi.
Calgary
Calgary’s event took place at the Royal Hotel, where attendees heard from keynote speaker Muthui Mwangi, as well as Dr. Yvonne Kangong and community advocate Moose Abdel‑Musap.
Regina
In Regina, community members gathered at D’Calabash Restaurant & Lounge for an uplifting afternoon of cultural celebration, connection, and reflection on resilience and triumph over adversity.
